Celebrating 50 Years!

January 2007

It was the summer of 1957 and Eugene Gluhareff strapped on his backpack helicopter and walked out to a vacant field on a turkey farm in Torrance, California for a test flight. Eugene had no doubts that this strange looking contraption, with blades extending above his head and a pressure jet engine mounted at the tip would actually fly. But the "Puddle Jumper", as it was affectionately called, did and everyone involved in the project was a confirmed believer in the jet and Eugene's genius.

The concept of a strap-on, portable helicopter was born from a desire to win a contest and Mr. Gluhareff, along with the help of his business partner and wife Alla, took on the challenge. They didn't win, but it was all the motivation they needed to continue working on the helicopter and to make a bigger and more powerful, pressure jet engine.

2007 is a milestone year for Gluhareff Helicopters as we celebrate 50 years since Mr. Gluhareff strapped on his first helicopter in that field and took it up into the air in front of a handful of incredulous onlookers. Those who worked with him nicknamed him "Buck Rogers" for his fearlessness. Others called him crazy. He had a lifelong dream of flight and because he believed in his jet engine design and never gave up his passion, finally realized that dream with the EMG - 300 Tip Jet Helicopter.

To those of you following the renaissance of the Gluhareff Pressure Jet Engine at TipJet.com, I thank you for your continued interest and support.
